John Denver

Post  Zedd Squared on Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:20 pm

Current status: UNFINISHED

Voice type: Tenor
Sung vocal range: G2-D5
Total vocal range: G2-G5

Significant high notes:
  • G5 ("Thank God I'm a Country Boy")
  • D5 ("Calypso")
  • B♭4 ("Looking for Space")
  • A4 ("Calypso", "Rocky Mountain High")
  • G4 ("Dancing with the Mountains", "Song for the Life")
  • F♯4 ("Country Roads Take Me Home", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", "Dancing with the Mountains", "The Mountain Song", "On the Wings of an Eagle")
  • F4 ("Seasons of the Heart")

Significant low notes:
  • D3 ("Perhaps Love", "Windsong", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", "Dancing with the Mountains", "Song for the Life", "Wild Flowers in a Mason Jar")
  • C♯3 ("Looking for Space")
  • C3 ("Seasons of the Heart", "Children of the Universe")
  • G2 ("Song for the Life")

Wonderfully smooth tenor voice Denver had, and a vast body of work to listen to (much of which I find quite emotionally inspiring). More notes need to be found lows and highs, but here is the starting point.
Some examples of his singing:
(Probably what I'd call his best performance)

Great singing here. Generally an awesome singer IMO.

A4 in his performance of 'Johnny B Goode' Live from Wembley Arena in 1979.

I'm not sure what note he hits at 4:16 ("What are we making weapons for?")

(they manage to get the volume balance right for most of the song but at that moment Gradsky's B4 is louder than whatever Denver is singing). Nice sustained F#4s throughout.

Not a huge fan outside of Rocky Mountain High, but I have to respect this man after his retort to the PMRC. XD

Too early for me to notewatch well, but he's got some nice mix on here.
