Been wanting to make this thread for awhile, as he's one of my favourite vocalists. Will update when I get more time. I've included pretty much everything noticeable in his studio stuff. Saw him live in Toronto about 2 months ago and he put on an amazing performance; however I noticed that he chickens out on most of the high notes (probably too drugged out hehe), so I haven't bothered checking his live stuff for highs yet. If you guys find anything else feel free to post.

Abel is the singer of the Toronto-based R and B outfit The Weeknd. He sounds like a lower Michael Jackson, very beautiful tone and incredible ease in his upper range, not to mention a falsetto that is to die for. All of this guy's lows are from backing vocals, and they sound light as hell, so I'm going with mid-tenor.

Listen to that falsetto G5 at 3:25, makes it sound so easy!

Dips down to F2's here in the backing vocals around 3:10, pretty sure that's near his lower limit, they sound really weak.

Light is right, I'm thinking he may even be a possible high tenor judging from how he hits C5's and D5's with seemingly no effort at all. I can't find any interviews by him to see what his regular speaking voice sounds like to judge, but here's a clip of him talking through a mic to a crowd before and after this performance of Outside. Even with the mic he sounds incredibly light!

Not the best live singer, but naturally has a beautiful, very light timbre.

Where is the full E5 in lotp? I don't hear it...granted I'm driving right now hha. And IMO, the orange F#5 is blue, I have the same voice type and sound and it's reinforced falsetto both to my ears and voice.

There's nothing second octave there, as far as I can tell.

That was so brief it isn't even worth mentioning sweetie. When it gets down into the seconds... That's when we start to question whether or not it's even a voice emitting that sound.

Whoa, didn't know this thread was still kicking around Razz In other news, he's got his debut album, "Kiss Land", coming out soon! Let's see how his voice holds up against all that partying and touring this year.

Bdub, where did you see him play? I thought he was pretty good in Toronto in November, much better than videos I've seen of him live (ahem Coachella). Granted he was nowhere near the calibre of his studio performances, which are assisted with a bit of auto-tune.

Thanks for posting that range video, will make notewatching this guy much less tedious.

I am also a fan of The Weeknd. Kiss Land was anounnced in March, But I still don't know the launch date. I found a live performance that he was playing ''Valerie'' and it was pretty dope.

Marvin Gaye's G1 is on the thread though, despite it being an awful fry note, which is what he was getting across. Serj's was removed, so there's nothing allowing it; hence it being an invalid example, which was what I'm trying to tell you.

"Awful" is the wrong word, it's just a moment nobody listens to and goes "woah what a voice/talet"!

what makes it awful to me is that it has nothing to do with the rest of his range or his style of singing. So maybe worthless is a better word?
