Justyna Steczkowska
Polish based vocalist. One of the most prominent singers of Polish pop/alternative 90s music scene. Born and raised in a musical family where each of Justyna's siblings and their parents had specific roles within family-based band, which they went on to form sometime during her teens. Justyna took the role of a violinist and even continued her affair with said instrument at university level (as well as during her career - the instrument is ever present at her live performances and self-composed tracks) until she realised that singing was her true calling. She debuted in 1996 and keeps on recording and performing to this day, flirting with every flavour of music there is and always surprising her fans with unexpected turns in her musical career. Being present on the stage for over twenty years Justyna never bores; each album, or any artistic investment, is fresh and experimental, including pop-based albums. A true chameleon of an artist. Ranging from alternative music ("Dziewczyna Szamana")  to trip hop ("Anima", "Na Koniec Świata") ; from rock ("XV")  to Lullabies and ballads for the youngest ("Puchowe Kołysanki"); from musical theatre (multiple theatre roles, as well as "Mezalianse") and classical music to pop ("Daj Mi Chwile") ; from jazz ("Naga") to electro and dance ("Dzień i Noc"). From ambient and world music ("Maria Magdalena") to ethno ("Alkimja"), which includes her most recent project - balkan rhythms ("I Na Co Mi To Było?").
Vocally, Justyna has clear cut strengths and unavoidable weaknesses. Her instrument is under sufficient control and healthy technique ensures its sound's balanced support, placement and pitch at all times. She hardly ever goes flat, or sharp for that matter,  and never pushes beyond her physical limits. Overall, she's familiar with her instrument and treats it with care and wisdom. However, Justyna seems to be unable to sing in her mixed voice, which, aesthetically speaking, may sound off putting and even tiring. Her top notes are often dragged via chest voice until she unexpectedly breaks into head voice, or Falsetto. Whether it's a testimony of poor technique, or individual preferences? It remains unknown to this day.
