That's why I chose both Take On Me and Dream On. Unless you have a relatively comfortable, relatively large range, you're kinda screwed. With regards to the former, breath control is also an issue.

In terms of other hard songs to sing, pick pretty much anything by Björk, Kate Bush or Joanna Newsom. Quirky voices with many, many fifth octave notes.

Here's Dream On, by overwhelming popular demand.
And by equally overwhelming popular demand, here's Take On Me.

Status report, it was going perfectly until the first chorus where I forgot the lyrics, it all went to hell from there.

I can do better high notes, but I was unfamiliar with the song so I couldn't do them right.

But it's still funny as hell.

Also, I'm not responsible for any destruction of any eardrums.

The ending note was not intentional, it was just a strange occurrence.

Beautiful. I teared up about 20 times. You deserve an award.

Non-sarcastic answer: Wow, that was truly.... something. And I thought mine was bad, this is another level. At least you knew the words.

Oh well, this isn't supposed to be a serious thread, so i'll let it slide, none of the covers are gunning for greatness, we're just seeing how you could do in one take. So don't feel bad. Besides, you hit some pretty strong lows, and a crazy A6.

Those lows are intentional, the A6 was not.

That was fun! Albino Slug, you know there's no rule against using a karaoke video with the lyrics, right? Laughing I'm impressed that Fetty Mercury actually pitched your wild A6.

The E5s on Take on me are pretty good.

Now the ending of Dream On was hilarious!

Respect to you for actually posting your versions after asserting that these aren't that hard. I think, however, your covers demonstrate that actually they are pretty hard.
Dream On was pretty good apart from the high notes, which sounded like a cartoon villainess. Take On Me... needs some work but certainly gave me a good laugh!

I think it's important to respect the style of the original composer/singer. You just yelled out the chorus notes instead of attempting a softer approach. You should also think about how you approach a note, including the beginning and the end of it.

It's a bit quiet and I'm a bit shaky as I have to get a bit more comfortable in front of a mic (but since it's supposed to be a first-take bit and there are people sleeping in my house, I didn't want to re-do it), but here's a bass-baritone's take on the infamous "Take on Me" chorus (first an octave lower and then in the original octave). No Geddy Lee-esque screeching necessary. Thumb up

It's hard to beat sexy, light bass-baritone singing in the book of Holsety Smile .

Why do you always shout the first word of certain lines? I thought it was just because you found the chorus of Let It Go difficult but you're doing the same on the "SAY after me".

Anyway decent attempt but your whole approach is very shouty overall. No finesse at all.

The thing is, I think we can all struggle our way down to an A2 and then shout out an E5, but I have heard very few covers which manage to actually sing it without making it sound cartoony or simply ridiculous.

Here is my beautiful cover. I cracked a total of 19 times, overshot multiple notes, and broke out in a coughing fit once. Cringe warning.

All right, I decided to give up my dignity to cover this stupid Disney song (be warned, at 3:36, I do a really ridiculously clipped mixed voice scream for some fucking reason...): http://picosong.com/tMdM

Oh, and yes, I completely forgot the verse after the first chorus, and I said I didn't know the bridge... but somehow I pulled it out of my ass. Dance

That actually sounded pretty good! Didn't do the second verse, but the rest sounded great. Sang it well in the lower octave, good tone.

I like the fact that more people are now discussing and singing "Take on me" than the original song Laughing

Because Let It Go isn't really a good song. Just chose it cause it's challenging.

You raped your voice, it just can't sing higher at the moment.....
Horrible as fuck tone too on the high notes, you should never rape your voice like that.....

Take the time to sing in your comfort zone, make it sound good, then work on expanding.
