The first four: Kutless, Sea Of Faces, Strong Tower and Hearts Of The Innocent. Gonna listen to 2008's To Know That You're Alive soon.

I love this band but I'm not actually familiar with the latest part of their career, if you or anyone else could help it would be amazing!

Plenty of D3s, E4s, F♯4s throughout the choruses, as well as G4s at the end. Brief A2 at 0:18 (and make a new beginning) and a great A4 at 2:47 (as well as many more during the last chorus).

Great thread btw! I know who I'll be notewatching tomorrow. Smile

That's great! I didn't imagine that someone who likes him would show up. Much less help with notewatching

I wouldn't say that I listen to Kutless a ton, but just knowing I'm not the only one on this forum who's into Christian Contemporary music is encouraging. Very Happy Is it just this group or are there others you're into in that genre?

I like Skillet, which is another CCM band, but what I love about Kutless is the musicality and some nice messages too.
If you can recommend others bands with this sound or lyrics, I'd like to listen.

Oh my word... Tenth Avenue North, Matthew West, Citizen Way, Needtobreathe, Unspoken, This Hope, Jordan Feliz, Lauren Daigle, Matt Maher, For King and Country, Aaron Shust, Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Sidewalk Prophets, The Afters, Big Daddy Weave, Building 429, THIRD DAY... and on, and on, and on.

My point is, there are too many to name. Just open up Pandora, type in "Christian contemporary" and you'll find that 9/10 of the groups that show up have great material.

Of course, Kutless is a great place to start since they've been around for a loooong time.

Thanks, that's amazing!

About Kutless, I'm probably covering the 2008 album To Know That You're Alive today. Do you have knowledge about the later ones to help with the thread?

Oh shoot. Sorry for the late reply, but I'll check out some of the albums I know of.

Any neat finds in "To Know That You're Alive?"

I've found more highs than I expected from G4 above.

His control over high notes seems to get better with every album, it's noticeably different from that heavier tone that he used in the early songs, especially in the first album.

I should have a pretty complete list for you soon.

Can I have a link to the D5?

That's great!

The timestamp is 2:17, you can double-check to see if I pitched it correctly.

Also, something that has been bugging me long before I created this thread, do you think that Jon is actually a tenor, or a higher baritone? His soothing mid-range singing really confuses my mind. Smile

I think he's just a lower placed tenor. His notes above F4 have kind of a rougher sound to them than most, but he doesn't really have the same thickness as most baritones in that area. His third octave lows are also pretty effortless.

Also, I'm pretty sure the D5 is a slightly sharp C5. Smile

Yeah, I agree with you, he somehow lacks that extra weight of a baritone despite being rather low for a tenor.

Just updated the thread and gonna re-check some other pitches.

I think I may have mispitched the lows at 1:20-1:35 here, it sounds lower now than when I previously heard it. Maybe the B2 is a G♯2 (a new low set for him) or am I tripping due to it sounding too strong?

Are you talking about "thoughts of hate?" That's actually C♯3.

Really? Shocked

I was really misleaded by how strong it sounded then... this sounded so powerful. Shame on me.

Hey, we all make mistakes. Practice makes perfect, after all. It helps if you kind of hum the general pitch of the note to yourself and keep it in your head until you find a pitching instrument. At least, it works for me.

On another note, I'm having trouble finding the A2 in this song. I hear a lot of B2s and E3s, but no A2. Can I have a timestamp?

I found it at 0:40. But it may be a B2 as well.

That would be a B2 as well, yes. Sorry!

At least he still has the A2 from What Faith Can Do! Very Happy
