Johnny Nighthawk's Singing (and other vocal-based shenanigans) Thread

Post  Johnny Nighthawk on Fri Jan 29, 2016 9:17 pm

Hey all, it's been a while since I've been active. I'm making an attempt to get back into regularly singing as well as just exploring my voice more.

First thing I have is a reading of The Frozen. I know it's not actually singing, but I've been experimenting mixing fry and low speaking, as well as futsing around with some reverb settings, so I wanted to make an attempt at this piece. I'm also going to make another attempt at this when I figure it out more and get better recording equipment.

I'll have some other actual covers up soon enough, but let me know what you think!

Pretty good speaking, expressional confidence will build up if you act less in your speaking for the sake of acting, and do only expressions that are necessary.
Also, lower the tempo significantly.

I appreciate the advice. I've been performing on-stage for years, but I've only recently gotten into more speaking based work, so I still have a tendency to over express. I got super inside my head and into the piece simultaneously, so the tempo suffered and the whole thing came across a lot stranger than I would've liked.

So for the last few years I've been doing covers for Valentine's Day for the lulz, but I never actually release them. Well this year I did Lovefool by The Cardigans and I'm actually gonna put it out.

Just pretend the quality is a stylistic choice. Enjoy.

Hey all. It's been a while, but I'm back with another cover.

Here's Crazy from Gnarls Barkley. Please forgive the last chorus.

I hear baritone I approve! Give it more enthusiasm and feels bro! work on that!

I love the baritone tone Sad , you'll be able to be great in the future, you should practice Soldier of fortune by Deep Purple/Whitesnake.

Appreciate it! I'm definitely recording this again at some point. The recording quality doesn't feel up to snuff, so I'll definitely try to sound a bit more enthusiastic next time.

New cover of Headstone by Defeater. This song is pretty personal for me and it's taken me a long time to decide to cover it, so I hope you enjoy.
