Infernus2's Vocal Thread

Post  infernus2 on Wed Jan 06, 2016 7:15 pm

I'm an inexperienced baritone vocalist with a small range, hoping to improve my abilities in the future.

Vocal Type: Baritone or Low Tenor (depending on whether my light tone is fake or not)
Vocal Range: If counting notes I've produced in total regardless of quality, C♯2 - D5 - F6, but otherwise E2 - E4 is my full range.

However, I typically stay between F♯2 - E♭4 when singing.

Clips of my singing:
The Scientist (clip of verse, F3 - C4)
When We Were Young (clip of chorus and outro, C♯3 - A3)
Stay With Me (clip of chorus, A2 - B3)
Seawater (original) (clip of outro, E3 - C♯4)
Beautiful World (RATM version) (entire song, A2 - B3)
Gray (original) (F2 - D4)
Truce (entire song, E2 - D4)
Boulevard of Broken Dreams (entire song, F2 - E♭4, with pitch corrected E4s)
Day (original) (A2 - C4)

Cringe warning:
Our Love (F2 - D4)
Forest (E3 - C4)
Working Man (E2 - B3)
What I Got (G2 - D4)
Back in the USSR (D2 - E4)
We Will Rock You (D3 - B3)
Boogie With Stu (G3 - E4 - [C5])

We Will Rock You and Boogie With Stu contain absolutely nothing notable in my opinion.

Don't talk sing, please Neutral You need to develop a singing voice, because it honestly just sounded like you were speaking the lyrics rather than singing them. Just record yourself more often, and try to sing in pitch, It'll help out some too, but mainly just sing the song. TALKING IS MEH

Believe me, I am working on that, so I think I'll just hold off on singing clips until my voice gets better.

This is more of what my singing voice actually sounds like, rather than that shouting belting I did previously (it's a clip from verse of The Scientist from Coldplay, sung in the original octave): http://picosong.com/E2Fy/

Tried the chorus of Stay With Me, in a lower octave:

A little bit of discord during the harmonies, usually when you were finding the pitches at the beginning of the note, but pretty good, buddy. Keep it up.

This is my original song called Seawater, and this is my best take of the chorus without pitch correction (since I usually use it; I know, I'm a cheater):
http://picosong.com/8iG4/

It probably just sounds like yelling though. Confused

Hahaha, that chord progression was too much for me. Anyway, the singing sounded ok. A bit stuffy, but alright.

It seems like I've hit a point where my vocal chords have just suddenly become really tense. So I won't be singing for a while. Sad

So here, have some old singing clips to cringe at in the mean time since I won't be able to post anything else:
Badness ahead:
Our Love (F2 - D4)
Forest (E3 - C4)
Working Man (E2 - B3)
What I Got (G2 - D4)
Back in the USSR (D2 - E4)
We Will Rock You (D3 - B3)
Boogie With Stu (A3 - E4 - [C5])

We Will Rock You and Boogie With Stu contain absolutely nothing notable in my opinion.

Oh hey, I forgot this existed! jk i just didn't have anything yet

Anyways, here is my best attempt at the Stressed Out rap parts with my stupid fucking voice.

God damn, do not underestimate the "cause we have the same nose, same clothes, homegrown, a stone's throw from a creek we used to roam" part. It's a major tongue twister, much like the line from HeavyDirtySoul, but at a lower tempo ("There's an infestation in my mind's imagination, I hope they choke on smoke 'cause I'm smoking them out the basement.")

Lol, well it's better than Donuts' Coco cover. Honestly it sounds kind of awkward. You should've sang the "blurry face" parts too. I guess your sense of rhythm was alright though, but your voice just sounds kind of funny doing rap. Work on it mate

I have speech problems, so I have to screw up the sound of my voice to even get the words to come out. Not really when I speak normally though.

Maybe you're just talking about my normal voice though... well, I don't know how to do anything about that, I just have a horrible teenage voice. Cringe

I have a lisp so... the feels man Sad and I mean, Tyler has a teenage sounding vois too so, that wasn't it. You're vois just sounds kinda weird when rapping. I don't actually know what it is exactly tho Laughing don't take it to heart at all though, because my opinion is worth shit with my annoying vois lol

Last time I checked bass baritone was Jimi Hendrix like and Eddie Vedder.
Your tone is far from solid, understandable since you're a beginner, you need to support it a lot more and work on having an emotional vocal flow, sing like you mean it!

well since your voice is like the brightest you can try to cover this one
https://youtu.be/qGSb8eSm42k?t=34

If you ignore the cheesyness of the song you realize it's actually pretty good. the verses span at the ~D3-C4 range so it sounds fair for ya, and you can sing the chorus one octave lower

also I'd like to hear some lows from you, wanna check if you really are a bassbaritone Basketball

I really think I'm not a bass-baritone at all, I just don't have the proper support in my voice to be anything else. I have this feeling I'm actually a tenor of some sort.

your light and bright timbre does shout some tenor qualities, but you are way too low placed to be one. you're probably just undeveloped and young. I thought you're some kind of a lyric baritone, but the big majority of them are at the high baritone area, and they are much higher than you, whilst you're more like in the low baritone area. you remind me of myself a bit when I was younger with no voice development at all. thought I never was so yellowish as you. maybe you're some kind of a hybrid baritone who knows, that's why I told you to record some lows (C2-B2 area)
