I chose option 2 because not only are they vocally amazing...they have the backing choir, and they actually put acting into their performance...if there was great acting in Nightwish's version they would have won, but then you also have cleavage and...Antonio Banderas...who really gives off a traditional performance of the Phantom.

I like the first one the most of them all, though I prefer Brightman and Banderas as a duet couple overall.

Here are two more to consider:

Well I would have chosen that one myself, but Marco doesn't fit the phantom vocals...you'd need a metal voice like Kiske's to fill that role...or just have Banderas come in...so since that part is a duet...Brightman and Banderas auto-wins for me. Laughing

He really does...I loved his operatic approach to this version as when I first heard it about six years ago I was rather blown away...didn't think someone in a metal band at the time would bring such an approach to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8Zci-3ZvYg You mean him? Ramin Karmiloo yes is good. Michael Crawford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5dhyiqhR7Y was the first major, but not the first...Colm Wilkinson, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeL3-koVTJ8 was the Phantom/Erik first, but Crawford wasn't even supposed to be the Phantom. The Phantom was actually supposed to be Steve Harley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny5H9GiVP_0.

Went with Di'Anno/Maiden. Di'anno had such a mean way of singing that was perfect for Maiden at the time. Both Di'anno and Maiden got significantly better with Killers, but their "Phantom of the Opera" is really a classic and has to be one of the great metal songs of the era, imo.

Why did an opera rip off an Iron Maiden song... and steal the cords from a Pink floyd song Drunk

I voted for the second version, whilst the Phantom is not supposed to sound like an opera singer, it is preferable if he is able to hold a tune in operatic style.
