It puts you on the pitch you're closest to in a desired key, so you dot have to actually hit it. Also loads of people who use melodyne use it for more than slight pitch correction, so there's no way of telling what the original note was.
Oh really? didn't know that. I've seen some musicians autotuned live where it sounded like they were being autotuned chromatically though, like off key constantly. like this travesty:

The problem is that different people hear F6, F7 and F#7. If we all could agree that it's an F#7, I would add it.
