Anibal's Singing Thread

Post  Aníbal on Tue Dec 16, 2014 3:32 pm

This is a Beatles cover - And Your Bird Can Sing one of my favorite songs from Revolver
I love the guitar riff through the song so I decided to record the whole thing

I'm not used to sing this low so maybe I could be out of tune in some parts

Damn, that was some really great acoustic work. From what I can hear you got all those chord changes and guitar harmonies down perfectly. The vocals could have more power behind them in my opinion though as it sounds too casual from you. If only because I am used to hearing John Lennon tearing his voice in half singing in the fourth octave but nevertheless great work on this bro. Peace out. Smile

i agree, fantastic instrumentation - you really nailed it here, i almost prefer the nice round pop guitar tone you got here to the one on the original beatles record.  the harmonies were on spot, too.  however, the main vocal was a bit lacking.  sounded very awkward at times.

edit: wait what am i in heroins thread or anibals

This sounds great man! I love the way you harmonize and the way it sounds, you sounded a little pitchy on some notes but this is an awesome cover nevertheless! The guitar strumming work is very relaxing btw!

A bit pitchy at times but otherwise definitely impressive. Guitar rhytm was solid too. I don't know the song at all so I can't comment on anything too in depth.
Just out of curiosity, what are your vocal goals in the long run? As in are you focusing on really nailing that super high tenor sound as your niche (everyone needs a niche to tap into), or are you hoping to evolve the sound in some direction as you age/mature?

I'm 20 now but as you see I look like a teenage 15 boy haha, for now i'm focusing on my high vocals, but if my voice change with the time that'll be cool to!
My lowest note now is a C3/B2 and the highest in full voice is an A5 so i'm fine with that for now

fantastic covers all around! great job on the sleeping with sirens cover. there are point where your voice starts to sound more crisp and mature, like on the word "rules" and "about me" in the beginning. i think that's the tone you should cultivate - it sounds so cool. i dig how high your voice is and how much it helps you sing these songs, but you should try converting these easy notes you have into something that doesn't necessarily just sound "high," but try to affect the tone in a variety of ways and experiment with different colors you can introduce to your voice. try something gritty/raspy, or maybe something that goes from a very soft light singing to a more belty one. overall, great voice! i could hear you doing a lot of things with it.

I'd like to sing like that, my goal is to sing like Christofer drew from never shout never, the problem I have with the highs is that sound so easy and I want them to sound like the voice of Paul in Helter Skelter or something but the thing is that I start to "belt" around E5/G5 and even in that notes doesn't sound raspy Banghead

This one is Helter Skelter by the beatles

I got some really really low notes there!! but I don't know if they are 2nd or 1st octave at the end

also I tried to get a "heavier" or raspy sound

at the beginning I was a little uncomfortable

btw, On the "Helter Skelter" part I was out of tune on purpose

I liked your tone and your phrasing throughout the song although in all honesty "yeah yeah yeaheaah" when you went to the first verse was kinda well, off pitch and awkward sounding.. But the rest was good! Smile

You should do "In Dreams" from Lord of the rings! It might be a little high for you F#5(for a half note or something) but you could always sing it a little lower. I am interested in how you would sound because you are capable of more strength than a boy soprano and I have not yet heard you sing anything classical. A good idea? BTW great voice Clap

I am new. Just wanted to make sure because the F#5 is supposed to be free and sad but it can't sound like that if you are screaming (just go the the "who can sing the most emotional Eb5" thread if you don't know what I mean). I have the music sheet if you want me to upload that. This song is INCREDABLY hard to nail, trust me, I have been trying to sing this song in falsetto for over a year and it still doesn't sound anything like how I want (it did however give me a 3 octave falsetto range:dance:)

Anyway here is the clip

Definitely hearing the Michael Jackson comparison quite strongly. All in all, not bad. I wasn't sure if your voice would actually fit this song because it's such a heavy and aggressive tune, and while there were a few points where you did sound a bit too light (and a bit too relaxed on some of the B4/C5 notes, even), you handled it better than I was expecting. My only real criticism would be that you noticeably got the lyrics wrong a few times, so be a bit more careful about that in future covers.

As far as your "really really low notes" go, however, I must admit I'm hearing nothing lower than D3 at the end... TMI

That is below the tenor staff. When I was a countertenor/ boy alto a D3 was impossibly low and considering he is really comfortable in the C5 range a D3 is quite low. That would be like you singing a D2 or something(that is assuming you sing around C4). Nice job man!
