theellafan's singing thread

Post  theellafan on Mon Dec 15, 2014 3:09 am

This is a dour variation of "Fairytale of New York" I've been busking to. I'm a contralto with a pretty limited range (C♯3-C♯5) so this song suits me well I think. ☺ Sorry for guitar mistakes!

OMG thanks Super Bread! Especially for the "profesh" part! I would love to sing professionally so much. So if you do have criticism let me know so I can improve. Nitpicking welcome. ☺
I recorded some singing for my friend this week, as soon as that's mixed I'll share it here. If you want something else now here's a short clip of "Eight Days a Week" from open mic last night. There was a horn player from earlier who joined in too. ☺

Absolutely superb...I never would have guessed you were 18 by the sound of your voice. You sound like you've been doing this for years. How long have you been singing for?

Keep up the good work! With that polished of a voice, your aspirations to turn professional may very well come true.

It sounds good with your voice definitely. Just checking though, is the nasal tone intentional? Cuz it sounds awesome but it might be a sign of incorrect technique

I opened up my high range early on and maintain it with an exercise I found named the "witch's cackle" & I guess some of that nasal witchy sound ended up in my voice. ☺️

Here's a very silly clip..."Take on Me" from the karaoke bar. rofl Not my best singing at all but I'm pushing my range pretty hard here and this is The Range Place. ☺️

Does anyone have ideas for songs I could sing?

Hahaa I'm an Alice in Wonderland maniac so I really like that song! It's not something I could do alone. I'm joining a cover band next month so I'll check if they like that idea. I sang "Somebody to Love" once and it was tough!

The eight days a week cover was great! I like your voice, good job, seriously are you a contralto? Because I think you can sing higher than that, like jessie j or pink

I`ve listened to eight days a week, and i really like your tone! And you have a pleasent voice, but learn to control your vibrato and use something different to record with than a potato Very Happy
Use something like Audacity and a quality microphone and a backingtrack and you`ll can do much more, and i guess that it improves the recording quality and thus the quality of which we hear you sing in by miles!

Your voice would really benefit from that!

Thankyou! ☺️ I don't feel comfortable singing higher than C♯5 but I can do it. I can sing "Let it Go" (from Frozen) half of the time but that's my limit.

Thankyou. "Come & Get It" was recorded in my friend's studio and "Fairytale of New York" was recorded myself using Logic Pro. "Eight Days a Week" is a phone recording. I'll remove it before anyone else assumes I don't know what I'm doing...lol.

I haven't posted anything in a long time! I stopped singing for a while but I'm starting again. Everyone's probably tired of this song but here's a short clip of "Let It Go" I sang for my school last week. ☺ This song is very tough and at the top of my range, any advice would help a lot!

Nicely done. You have a good strong voice, and that sounded mostly pretty professional. The high note near the end sounds just a little bit shouty to me, but it still has the climactic quality it should have. It will probably get easier with practice.

Thankyou Celice! ☺ The last high note is a nightmare! After singing the rest of the song my voice is always too tired for it. It's probably not good to sing at my top range for so long but it's a fun song.
