Eddie Jobson

-
Summary: Light timbre, sounds somewhat similar to Jon Anderson. Only has vocals on one album!
Associated with: UK, Roxy Music
Genre(s): Progressive rock
-
Examples of singing:
Spoiler:
"Turn It Over" (Eddie Jobson; Zinc - The Green Album; 1983) - A clip from the chorus of the song, touching a strong C5.
"Listen to Reason" (Eddie Jobson; Zinc - The Green Album; 1983) - Showing off more of his mid-range and "lower" notes in the third octave. Definitely capable of lower, but it's never been recorded as far as I know.
"Green Face" (Eddie Jobson; Zinc - The Green Album; 1983) - Strong notes up to A4, displaying good control and phrasing.
-
Description:
Spoiler:
A talented keyboardist and electric-violinist, who played in many progressive rock bands in the 70s and early 80s.
In 1983 he recorded a solo album, "Zinc - The Green Album", in which he recorded vocals. This is the only known studio vocal contribution he has made (though, there are supposedly demos lurking around of him singing unreleased tracks). He has contributed backing vocals in live performances though.
Despite this, I chose to make a thread for him.

Jobson's voice is light and clear, rather similar to other prog-rock vocalists like Jon Anderson or Geddy Lee. He has great phrasing and control - sort of surprising that he never did any other vocals, really, given his skill.
-
Detailed note list:
Spoiler:

  • E♭5 ("Resident", "Through the Glass")
  • D5 ("Caesar's Palace Blues" live 1979, "Green Face", "Who My Friends...")
  • C♯5 ("Through the Glass", "Who My Friends...")
  • C5 ("Easy For You to Say", "Turn It Over")
  • B4 ("Easy For You to Say", "Listen to Reason", "Turn It Over", "Who My Friends...")
  • B♭4 ("Resident", "Through the Glass")
  • A4 ("Green Face", "Resident")

"Low" notes:

  • C4 ("Turn It Over")
  • B3 ("Resident")
  • A3 ("Easy For You to Say", "Listen to Reason", "Who My Friends...")
