Bradphone`s singing thread

Post  bradphone on Sat Dec 06, 2014 3:49 am

I decided to record this song last night, a friend of mine wanted to hear my interpretation/cover of this song, and she thought that it was "Great"  So i`m sharing it! (Although i should`ve probably lowered it by a few semitones)

Used a karaoke backing!

A Ronnie Wood song from his latest album, i decided to keep it simple for the verse and the first chorus (Only some rythmic work on a Strat) And for the 2nd chorus and solo i used some nice sounds from the Korg M1.

I swear if you sing the U2 1 tone lower that will sound amazing! but your highs are better now, congrats!

Thanks, i`m kinda training myself now to get a bit more confident in the upper 4th octave, so i`m not lowering songs, unless they`re really high and horrible to sing.
Thanks for your kind words man!

recorded a very chilled out version of the song.
Piano, guitar doing nice open chords with lots of reverb, relaxed vocals, that`s it.

And i lowered the key from D to G so that it suits my range better!

Thanks man! I tried my best to get emotions out by singing, that`s why i did the high bit, it was kinda out of place but i thought that it didn`t sound too bad..

Really kind words!

Tried to do the song justice by recording it the best way i possibly could in terms of instrumentation and vocals and i think i did a decent job... I even did some experimenting with guitars (Never really did a solo like this)

Funky version of Back Chat

Recorded this with some great sounding VSTIs, and dare i say some of the high notes are my most confident sounding notes since i`ve started singing.

Pitching was mostly okay, and the backing music was fine...But you sounded FAR too American, and what the fuck was going on with those higher notes in the chorus??

I`m sounding far too american? I`m taking that as a compliment since i`m dutch.
Those higher notes in the chorus were something that i had to do, the original ooh-oohs were an octave lower, but my voice is losing the lower falsetto it`s sounding extremely airy lately, so i had to jump up an octave.. And even that sounded kinda strained..

Ah, that would explain a lot Wink I thought you would be able to do those without falsetto though? And what are you saying, that you're losing you're falsetto somehow?

Yeah, i could do them without falsetto, but that didn`t sound right to me..
Well, my falsetto for the last couple of days is getting kinda weak in the 3rd and 4th octave, thin and airy, i had a cold over the last few weeks so maybe that has something to do with it.

It`s strong in the 5th octave though.

Cover of the song Old Habits Die Hard by Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart from the soundtrack from the movie Alfie!

In my humble opinion my best vocals to date, i`m not shouting or oversinging and i`m actually pretty relaxed.

Streets Of Love by The Rolling Stones, covered by me, i tried to do song justice so i sang it very relaxed in a high register (The chorus that is) And i added a simple but effective (in my opinion) guitar solo.

Something by a little douchebag called Justin Bieber, it`s just under a minute, and i tried to give it my own little twist by changing the arrangement, ánd lowered the key (2 semitones)

I was singing that song the other day, I didn't liked this version. as I said before your lower voice sounds a lot better. You should consider singing lower more often. seriously Thumb up
