He's too good for you? Smile Seriously though, he's quite nice to listen to in my honest opinion, he doesn't sound screechy even though he's very high-placed. However I have to admit that his diction can be weird sometimes Confused

He's high placed, not "very" though.

Maxim would disagree Laughing He's what we call an ST, so yeah I think it's fair to say he's got a very high-placed voice for a male (not all males hit unstrained E5s etc without even having particularly special technique, nor do they sound that "low" in the lower third octave...) but not enough that he'd be a HT for our terms.

Low ST.

rofl

Seriously though, very nice pipes, some incredible textures and harmonies in this stupidly named little band.

His voice is really good. The autotune bits in some songs are a bit irritating, but other than that Thumb up

You do realise that Muffin was an active poster on TRP1 and is well acquainted with our terms?

Totally agree. I can't stand that autotune passages at all. He's a quite nice singer, though.

When he was with The Format, he did a demo of Dear Boy, it's on the B-Sides and Rarities album. Starting at 0:18, he sings two low lines, I don't think they drop below G#2, but they're definitely stronger than any low notes I've ever heard him sing. It makes me wonder if he could go lower...

I think you heard the Snails EP version, in which case yeah, he doesn't go low at all. He goes way lower in the Demo though, I'll try to find it and post a link.

I can't find it on youtube. But if you go on Grooveshark and search Dear Boy B-sides and Rarities, it'll be the first result.

Plenty of live acoustic versions of "Be Calm" go down to a G2 in the same part (they always used to bring the whole song down a semitone back when they actually played it live)

incidentally a lot of B4's in the studio version of the song

edit: was about to post some examples of the low G2's when I stumbled across this version, which actually goes down to a brief E2 at 0:59 and an F♯2 at 1:04!

It's really hard to make out any of those notes in the video.
