Vocal track of an unplugged version of "Jukebox Hero":

Some upper 2nd octave notes. Possible F♯2 around the 20 second mark (on "show")

Nice find. I hear many A2s and some F2s.

Gonna remake Gramm's video at some point... Feel free to discuss stuff to be included. I already have the stuff posted here down.

Preferably suggest a B4 clip (either powerful or effortless) and C5s/C#5s. I'll see what to make of those.

Awesome. His lows really need a clean-up - get rid of all those insignificant anacrusis second octave notes and add some nice melodic lower third octave notes instead.

Good luck pitching "Big Dog", though. Last time I checked it, I think I might've heard a G1 or two, but it's kinda hard to say where the countable notes cut off in that song.

Goddamn it, this performance has been removed from Youtube... Got a spare link or the name of the performance? Was it the Regis gig?

Yes, it was from the Regis gig. Unfortunately I don't have a backup, and there doesn't seem to be another source on the web.

It's an anacrusis on the first word of the song. Probably not actually remotely close to G♯2, though.

Damn, that "Waiting for a Girl Like You" F5 sounds just like early Joey Belladonna! Truly a legendary high range.

Lows section was pretty neat too, kinda surprising how much good singing he actually has between C3 and F2 for an AOR singer (especially remembering how Ray originally couldn't find more than three low clips by him that were good enough to use in a video Blushing ). "Big Dog" will always be an absolute WTF, though. He actually kinda reminds me of Russell Allen in that sense: they both never sing lower than mid second octave, but have crazy strong first octave notes that they only ever bother to bring out for parlandos/spoken sections, leaving us notewatchers with a frustrating range gap to work around. Hmmmm....

The more I think about it, I don't think it was the surgery itself that altered Lou's voice. I think it was the treatments he was on afterwards that changed his voice.

This was 6 months after his surgery and he sounds perfectly fine!

D5 in "Starrider" ("will they help US grooow") - at 3:40

D5s in "Hot Blooded" - at 0:40 and 1:45

Now here's someone whose lows could be expanded up to E3.

Oh cool, are you planning to take over this thread? Cause it could definitely use some touching up, especially in the lows section. Just going over the lows from Timi's video, here's what I'm hearing:

- The "Waiting for a Girl Like You" live C3s actually get down to B2.
- "I Keep Hoping" B2s are legit.
- The "Women" clip actually bottoms at E3, not B2.
- "With Heaven on Our Side" G♯2s are legit.
- The "Jukebox Hero" nearly unplugged version bottoms at like A2 on "he couldn't get a ticket NOW", then also has a strong D3 on "it was a sold out SHOW". The G2/F♯2 is just an exhale that we shouldn't bother with though.
- "Rising Suspicion" F2s are legit (and quite good too!)
- "Big Dog" actually gets as low as G1 and possibly lower at points! Crazy lows in that one, I still don't entirely know how to make sense of it.

Also, does anyone know where this alleged B♭5 that he's listed for came from? I haven't seen any mentions of that note...

Yeah I could take over eventually.Smile

The "Big Dog" notes are really troublesome, considering that I don't think it'll look good with a ton of those crowding the bottom section. Maybe I'll list two or three of the best growls I hear. I probably won't count them toward his melodic range, though. Wink

Re: Lou Gramm

Post  Hopscotch on Sat Jan 24, 2015 2:41 pm

Yeah they're not melodic. I'm not sure what pitches I would list them as, but I'd just list the "main" bottom note of each section and anything that gets below that I guess.

By the way, I checked out the song that he was listed as having a B♭5 in, and it turned out to be a mispitched falsetto "woo!" A5, so that can definitely be removed. Some nice F5s towards the end of the song, though those apparently got mispitched too because they're listed in the OP as F♯5s. Angry

No B2 in "Juke Box Hero" btw. Solid E3 though, and some nice B4s that aren't listed in the OP.

Probably would really be worth double-checking any of the lows listed that weren't in Timi's video, cause at this rate I'm growing skeptical about how many of them actually exist.
