Elly Jackson in the lead singer, and co-main songwriter and producer of British synth pop duo La Roux. Though she occasionally sings some rather nice lows, those are mostly used to create dense harmonies, but not sung in the lead vocals. Most of her singing is extremely light and situated in the upper fourth/lower fifth octave area, with "In For the Kill", for example, being mostly sung on E♭5s. At the same time, her vocals are usually very solid and well-controlled. Interestingly, one of La Roux's best known songs, "Bulletproof", contains singing that sounds pretty different from virtually everything else she's recorded, with verses of strong, slightly twangy B♭4s. She has never replicated that tone live as far as I know, though.

As in full voice but with a crack? I was thinking it might have been full, but it sounded almost too easy and uncontrolled... but then again, she has absolutely effortless F5s and G5s thrown around in the same performance...

The note sounded un-intentional/overshot. If you want to count it, I guess you could!

I think that's the best description of her voice. Someone who's sounding low at C#4 and hits G5s effortlessly is a soprano to me. Much, much, much higher placed that Avril anyway Dance

Oh well, once we've found it, I guess it's best to do so Laughing

When she's using a decent amount of twang in her highs, she sounds very good ("Bulletproof" studio version), but she often uses soft mix voice for everything up to a Eb5, and it seems like she's got this A5 too Very Happy Her low range is kinda cute because she's pushing it around the same pitch I began pushing my chest voice to go higher Laughing

I changed the picture in the main post in accordance with my newfound infatuation with Elly, hope you don't mind.  Wink
So B6, is she really that weak-soundig live? Her studio stuff always seems to sound so well-controlled that it seems strange that she can't do it live...

That was very much an exaggeration, sorry. She seems to maintain good control, though I haven't heard her replicate the tone she has in "Bulletproof".
