Best Vocal Cover

José Andrëa (Mago de Oz) - Es Hora de Marchar (spanish version of Rainbow - Rainbow's Eyes)

I guess this counts, right Very Happy Although the lyrics are changed to the original language of MdO, There aren't no big noticeable changes in scansion, phrasing or melody lines. José does a lovely job with the soft singing here.

Original:

Best A Capella Passage

Kyo (Dir en Grey) - Conceived Sorrow (Live 2008)

4:40

This was the longest example of an a capella by any of the singers I choose, and it's pretty much only one word ("Todokanai") - but the way the little devil does here it is breathtaking: with the mic away from his mouth he sustains two lenghty B4s - and with a insane projection, considering he is singing unamplified.

Best vocal cover

Andi Deris - A Tale that Wasn't Right

While this cover is performed by the same band who did the original, Deris himself had nothing to do with the original song so it's still a cover for him. Here he demonstrates some great control over his highs and ballad-like singing. He takes a less dramatic approach than Kiske did in the original but communicates the song just as strongly with his own unique take on it.
ORIGINAL:

Best use of a cappella

Dan Swano - Victims of the Modern Age

I didn't have a lot to pick from in this category, and this is a very short clip. However, it's one of Swano's most classic vocal moments. He builds up a large number of harmonies including some cool beefy lows and then culminates in one of his monstrous growls in this great Star One song.

Covers
Andrëa: Pretty much a perfect replication of the original (lyrics aside). I mean yeah you're never going to have the character of Dio's voice, but this comes pretty dang close. 4/5
Deris: I've always considered this one of Deris's most interesting and best vocal performances. His version is much more emotional than Kiske's to me, and ATTWR is the one song I would say that I prefer his versions to Kiske. The orchestration is bit over the top, but it puts more emphasis on Deris's voice and allows him to really belt it out. 4.5/5

A capella
Kyo: That was damn powerful. Kind of a "huh?" selection but impressive no doubt. 3.5/5
Swano: Great layering, I like the way it keeps building. 4/5
