Most Depressing Singing

Toshi (X Japan) - "Forever Love" Live at Tokyo Dome, 1997.

2:53-3:27, though I highly recommend to watch the whole performance.

This was X's very last concert together at the time (they reunited 10 years later without the guitarrist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto, who died in 1998). I've chosen to use video footage instead of an audio clip because this shows how Toshi's state of mind was at the performance: he is totally heartbroken, the memories of all the times with the band visibly affected him (and also the other band members), as much as he tries to hold back his tears the sadness he is feeling is overwhelming (note how weak and shaky his voice sounds). In my opinion this is one of the most raw, intense and sincere displays of emotion happening on a stage. Also at 6:00 when Yoshiki the pianist, drummer and main composer fell over his piano keys while sobbing heavily is a truly devastating moment.

Best Vibrato

José Andrëa (Mägo de Oz) - T'esnucaré Contra'l Bidé

http://picosong.com/eeLu/

If you think I went too deep with the first one, this one is way easier to hear Smile A great showcase of the signature "heavy metal vibrato" José used, combined with a great melismatic passage.

Most Depressing Vocals:

Courtney Love- You Know You're Right

2:06-2:43

an off interpretation of depressing.

Best Vibrato/whatever these categories were called:

Regina Spektor- Rejazz

0:00-1:30

Her staple, subtle vibrato. Easy on the ears.

Depressing

Kyo- uhh... I'm just not feeling it at all 2/5
Courtney- c'mon... Courtney has way more depressing things than this- "Doll Parts" or "Old Age" would have been better. This was okay for the category though 3/5

Vibrato

Andrea- Really good vibrato man, kind of wanky but still good 4/5
Spektor- Good shit 4/5

Vibrato
José Andreä - Not very pleasing to my ears, a bit showing off, but the technique is so good so what can I say? 3.5/5
Regina Spektor - I have trouble hearing the vibrato and find the whole clip kind of bland 2.5/5

Depressing Vocals
Toshi - Short clip, I wish I could listen more, but from this little piece I can state that the singing is deeply heartfelt - 4.5/5
Courtney Love - I hear no sadness - 1.5/5

Best Vibrato:

Andrea: Not a fan of this dude's singing, but the vibrato is very good. 4.5/5
Spektor: There's not much vibrato, and where there is it's pretty subtle, but it's pretty nice. 3/5

No depressing vox rating, because the category is being nullified. An announcement about that will be made.

Andrea: Very strong vibrato and hella strong singing. 4.5/5
Spektor: Very odd choice; her vibrato use is very tasteful, but not really enough for this. 1.5/5

Quick reviews, it's almost 6 a.m. here.

WOW JUST READ NULLIFIED CATEOGRY, WHOOPS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andrea (finally not calling him "Faggot de Oz")- "Te voy a..."... what? Anywyas, I really liked that. Some really nice trills at the beginning and quite stunning vibrato on the higher notes, particulary the one at 007. A nice clip, but not really super mindblowing. 4/5

Spektor- Nice acapella beginning, great jazzy beginning. The vibrato as you say it's very subtle, almost unoticeable, but it's definitely there some times, and it works really nicely within the performance. 4/5
