Best vibrato:
Jackie Wilson - My Empty Arms

My pick was originally going to be something by Ralf Gyllenhammar, but I figured this would be a perfect choice for the category, considering Jackie's amazing technical prowess as a singer. This particular piece showcases his opera-influenced tenor particularly well, including the amazingly relaxed vibrato around such a high pitch.

Most depressing vocals:
Graham Bonnet - I'm a Lover

Hear Graham belt his heart out... Incredible singing full of passion, he means every word he lets out. I'm also a big fan of the song itself.

John West - "Intervention" (Royal Hunt; Intervention; 2000)

The powerful ending to the 15-minute-epic featuring West's iconic highs.

Most depressing vocals

Vibrato

West- Hmm... I don't think it sounds very good, sorry. Powerful and stuff but just don't find it pleasing to the ears 3/5
Wilson- Wow, really passionate and awesome sounding vibrato 4/5

Depressing

Fish- uhhh... um... this is a subjective as fuck category but I really don't hear even the slightest touch of sadness in the singing 2/5
Bonnet- Passionate sure but nowhere close to depressing 2/5

Seriously, though, the 'depressing vocals' category is damn tough to judge, as we all perceive such emotion in a different way. I personally find the Bonnet clip very sad and longing, but it's obviously not going to provoke similar reactions among everyone.

It goes to show that we really need to go over our categories that we currently have. These subjective ones don't work too well.

so after all i was right, it wouldn't be a problem if you accept that every point of view is valid, rate clips how you see them and that's all. I'll edit this latter to rate both clips. <3

Best Vibrato
Wilson: I remember back on DDD we had Jackie listed number 1 in the vibrato category. No arguments here. 6/5
West: Outstanding control on some great highs. I wish you had picked something other than superhighs, but that amount of control is still insane. 4.5/5

Depressing Vocals
Bonnet:  Laughing Not even close, Timi, sorry. 1/5
Fish: I found this more creepy than depressing, but there are tinges of it still. Singing was meh. 2/5

The difference being you didn't seem to be making even the slightest attempt to be objective. It's not required, but it makes the voting a lot less lame.

Harsh. Crying or Very sad

For real, goes to show that we perceive this kind of an assigned emotion very differently. Or maybe I've just misunderstood the context rather badly.

I could sorta see where you were coming from with the clip, but you're right. It's really different from person to person.

Vibrato
Jackie Wilson - Very pleasant, classical sound, reminded me of Pavarotti 4.5/5
John West - Not as pleasant as the above, but fits nice in the category 3.5/5

Depressing Vocals
Graham Bonnet - Passionate indeed, nice ballad, but not depressive 2.5/5
Fish - Pretty much what I said about the above - 2.5/5

Most depressing vocal:

Bonnet: My favourite Bonnet song. What a great vocal!
It was very passionate and powerful. Not a jolly happy tune, but also not a particularly sad song either.
And I miss that sadness for the category. As "depressing" is almost impossible to judge objectively, I still give this some points.
Subjective categories just don't work in this competition.
3/5

Fish: Same problem here. I would have though Fish worked great for this category, but thinking of it I can't think of any instance of "depressing" singing.
As I miss a sad mood here too and Bonnet's performance was more emotional, I'll give this a slightly lower score.
For the next rounds we really have to avoid such categories. 2.5/5

Best vibrato:

Wilson: Perfect vibrato. Doesn't require elaboration. 5/5

West: A good fit for the category, but not as incredible as Wilson. 4/5

Best Vibrato:
Timi/Jackie - I knew there was a reason people liked Jackie Wilson. 6/5
Todd/West - Pretty good, although it certainly lacked the sheer awe of Jackie's performance. 4/5

Most Depressing Vocals:
Timi/Bonnet - I love Bonnet, and this performance. I was going to give you higher, but when I re-listened to the performance, I really have to sway towards the others, in that it is more passionate than depressing. Still, great performance. 2/5
Todd/Fish - Really? What a weird choice... I would have picked something like "A Gentleman's Excuse Me", or even "Torch Song". Fish is good at the depressing vocals, but this is not a good example of it. Sorry Todd. 2/5

Best Vibrato:

Wilson: Perfect fit for the category. Amazing stuff. 5/5
West: What Sherick said. 4.5/5

No depressing vox rating, because the category is being nullified. An announcement about that will be made.
