Best Low Singing

Eddie Vedder doing some nice relaxing crooning with his ukelele in "Dream a Little Dream".

Best Vocal Climax

Corey Taylor belting like a motherfucker in the epic climax of "Zzyzx Rd." One of my favorite songs and favorite Corey Taylor moments.

Best low singing: Greg Lake - "Living Sin" - This is such an unusual performance for Lake at this time in his career. His lows are haunting and very terrifying, and they overpower everything else in the song. He does hit fry at points, but it's so strong and well-sustained, I think it's an excellent low performance.

Best vocal climax: Jon Anderson - "Heart of the Sunrise" - I've always thought this was Jon's best performance. Not only is the entire song very versatile (For Anderson), the ending is some of Anderson's strongest singing, which is tough for a voice as light as his. It sounds very emotional, and like Anderson is giving it his all. An excellent vocal climax.

Best low singing
Eddie Vedder: Solid lows with a nice Lanegan type of breathy rasp, but not too much else to say about it. 4/5
Greg Lake: Fan-friggin-tastic sound here. Always loved this song and especially the lows, they have quite an ominous vibe. 4.5/5

Vocal climax
Corey Taylor: Good tone here and some good notes but didn't especially blow me away. 3/5
Jon Anderson: Very emotive singing aided by it being a great song. The last note I always felt could've been a bit more sustained but overall this is a good climax. 4/5

Low Singing
Vedder: Warm, rich tone and phrasing. 4/5
Lake: Very solid, sustained lows. 4.5/5

Climactic Singing
Taylor: I didn't find it particularly impressive; nice belting nearer the end, but nothing that would jump out at me in a normal context. 2/5
Anderson: Again, not really spectacular, but stronger and more well controlled than the opposition. 3/5

Ed Vedz: makes me wish he'd sing this to me every night  In Love  5/5
Greg leeks: sounded like a drugged up pirate. which is A-okay 4/5

Cor Tay: sounded good but it just didn't do it for me, not even one goosebump 2/5
Jon Manderson: you fucked up with this choice. should have gone with "And You And I" or "Close To The Edge"
3/5

Best low singing
Eddie Vedder (5/5): Fantastic; I love the vibrato and warm resonance. It sounds very natural and comfortable. And quite a unique take on the classic song.
Greg Lake (2/5): Impressive control but quite a cold and harsh sound, and the dull melody is quite un-flattering to the voice.

Climax
Corey Taylor (3/5): It begins quite promising, his control and sound are great and there are good melismatic ideas, but ultimately it's quite repetitive.
Jon Anderson (3/5): Jon's phrases are very unique and he develops them well, but I find the lack of dynamic variation leads to an unsatisfying climax.

Best low singing
Eddie Vedder: Strong, though not mind-blowing, lows that fit the melody very nicely. 4/5
Greg Lake: Very strong lows, but I don't find they fit the music particularly well. 3.5/5

Climax
Corey Taylor: Sounds like it's building to something, but doesn't ever quite gets there. 3/5
Jon Anderson: Quite pleasant, but I don't really feel the climax. 3/5

Best low singing
Eddie Vedder: What a great lower register Eddie has these days. Rich, strong, unique in sound. 5/5
Greg Lake: Wow, wasn't expecting this! Huge sound and I personally find it fitting in the song context, although a bit forefront in the mix. 4/5

Climax
Corey Taylor: Sounds like it's building to something, but doesn't ever quite gets there. [2] 3/5
Jon Anderson: Great vocal here, and I personally felt the build-up. The composition kind of halted the power of the 'climax' a tad, but it sounded great and worked in the context. 4/5

Vedder - Low singing 3/5
Doesn't impress me very much. Nice crooning nonetheless.

Taylor - Climax 3/5
Evokes a lot of emotion, but not his best.

Anderson - Climax 2/5
Whiny tenor

Lake - Low singing 3/5
Kinda freaky!

Low Singing
Vedder: 3.5/5
He seems pretty relaxed singing down there, which is a good start. Some 'breathy' (stole a term from Garric) notes here and there, but they were evened out by some other ones that channeled my brain waves and relaxed me (or something).
Lake: 4/5
I've listened to more of Lake's singing than Vedder's, but not much of his low singing. I like this, though.

Best Vocal Climax
Taylor: 3.5/5
Not sure what kind of singing I ought to expect out of a guy like this, but the guitar was mixed to be louder than the voice itself. It took a while for me to hear something that seemed like 'climax', but maybe I have the wrong idea. Maybe it's not fair to rate this lower just because it's not the loudest part of the song, though; so I'll eliminate that complaint.

Anderson 4/5
Sometimes with these helium tenors you can miss the notes they're singing because they don't even take effort to sing. Some really nice, clean high singing here, which the average listener would even catch on to.

Best Low Singing

Big Brother - Eddie Vedder: Quite unexpected to me to hear Vedder going that low. Quite relaxed-sounding. 3,5/5

KMIG - Greg Lake: Those are some really powerful low notes and I agree with what you said before about this being quite an anomally at the time of his career. And I kinda agree with Frank, he sounds like a drugged pirate Very Happy 3/5

Best Vocal Climax

Big Brother - Corey Taylor: I gotta disagree with everybody here and say this is a really impressive performance. Notice how he takes each line higher and higher each time. Some really difficult runs and he keeps the consistence pretty well with his rougher tone. 4/5

KMIG - Jon Anderson: Sounds good, pleasant timbre and everything, but it doesn't match the intensity of Corey's performance. 2,5/5

BTW, you could try and write more elaborate reviews than "Whiny Tenor", Hodor. I don't think that would hurt.
