Round 2: Monocus vs MooseyFate

The closest thing to a cool sustained note I've heard him do.
Unfortunately I had to use Hughes for another category...

2. Best glissando: Glenn Hughes - Mistreated (live)
Yet another (different) live version of Mistreated with yet another C6.
I just couldn't resist using it, because it's just that mind-bogglingly crazy.

3. Most beautiful tone : Peter Hammill - Child
Peter Hammill from his most soft and gentle side. Some instrumental parts were edited out.

1. Coolest sustained note(s): Serj Tankian - Streamline

An INSANELY powerful C5, held for an equally insane amount of time. His breath capacity in-studio amazed me from a young age and still does.

2. Best glissando: Jack Black - Master Exploder

http://picosong.com/RdwR

You probably saw this coming. If you haven't heard this clip, it may be Jack's most impressive vocal moment, climbing up from a heavily darkened B2 all the way up to a mindblowingly beefy F♯5.

3. Most beautiful tone: Brian May - Why Don't We Try Again

http://picosong.com/RdwE/

I had a bit of trouble deciding on this category, but then I remembered this song and it was a breeze. Mysterious and wistful vocals in the intro, leading into a positively heartfelt and vulnerable chorus with shockingly gorgeous falsetto. It's a shame he doesn't go for that sound more often.

for something reason i can't edit my original comment to include a grade so here it is:

Monocus:

Paul Rodgers sustain - 2.5/5 (cool sounding but he didnt sustain very long)

Glenn Hughes glissando - 5/5

Peter Hammill beautiful tone - 3.5/5 (really fucking nice but i dislike his vibrato)

MooseyFate I love you :

Serj Tankian sustain - 4/5

Jack Black glissando - 1.5/5 (love jack but this sounded kinda shitty)

Brian May beautiful tone - 2/5 (meh)

Monocus:

Sustained: 3,5/5. Nice timbre, nice power, but not really sustained.
Glissando: 4,5/5. Beatiful, amazingly controlled.. I just would've prefered a powerful glissando, this one was soft. +1 because it's live
Beautiful: 3/5. It's a beautiful and soft tone, with nice vibrato. Nothing too special.

MooseyFate

Sustained: 5/5. Very few tenors can hit a C5, and even less can sustain it for so long with such power.
Glissando: 3/5. This glissando would be breathtaking if it was ever performed live. Ι believe it is fake.. I can't be sure, though, so I gotta rate it fairly. The timbre is a bit bad, soo..
Beautiful: 2,5/5. It is beautiful, but the singing in general isn't too special.

1.

Paul Rodgers - Amazing power and tonality, shame he didn't hold it for a longer time. A beautiful vocal moment, but I'll give it a bit lower score for the lack of length. 3/5
Serj Tankian - Holy fucking shit, that's just crazy. The way he keeps the control steady while sustaining that impresses me a lot. 5/5

2.

Glenn Hughes - There are no words left... That was both technically incredible and very beautiful, yet also tastefully done. HOLY SHIT! 5/5!!!
Jack Black - Can't agree with others, this is so rocking. Power! 4/5

3.

Peter Hammill - What a beautiful tone. I don't quite get the "nothing too special" comment above, as his timbre is certainly unique and stands apart, this category is about taste after all. 4/5
Brian May - Brian's vocal tone is very pleasant but not really my favourite. Tasteful, good singing. 3/5

Man, sucks that you can't edit your own messages. I had some minor fixes to make as well, although not that significant.

Sure.
He improvises those parts at the end of "Mistreated":

The main part of the song is missing, though.

Coolest sustained note(s):
Rodgers: Very well controlled and powerful, but like others said it's a shame it wasn't a bit longer, audio quality doesn't help either. 3.5/5
Serj: This man never ceases to amaze, one of the best rock C5s I've ever heard. 5/5

Best glissando:
Hughes: Didn't find this as annoying as the clip in the last round, as he actually did some decent buildup this time but I still think it's a little too schreechy, however since it's it's smoother I'll give it a pass. 4/5
Black: Sure his tone's ridiculous (he's a comedy actor after all) but the glissando itself is very impressive, very good choice. 4.5/5

Most beautiful tone:
Hammill: Very warm and soothing feminine head voice, a real pleasant listen that really adds to the docility of the music. 4/5
May: Really nice resonance and warm tone, probably one of the most beautiful tones out there. 4/5

Yes I did, I aboslutely adore Gleen Hughes and his schreeching banshee wails that make sound like a cat that has his tail and stepped on, and the fact he totally murder "Georgia on My Mind". In Love

It's just to me Glenn always had this real nasal quality to his high notes that makes them sound thin and screechy, while the note in that clip isn't the best example of the "cat" quality, I retroactively hear his "screechy" notes in my head so it sounds to me to have that quality, it still makes me wish the guy should've never messed with coke...

You're probably right about that, I tend to suck at similes Facepalm And upon hearing it again I think he sounds more like a demented bird. Laughing In general Hughes strikes me as one of those guys he knows he's a good singer so he flaunts every chance he gets, so when he does stuff like in that clip it always ribs me the wrong way, but I still gave him a high score, no?

Coolest Sustain
Paul Rodgers - Powerful note, good grit...that's about it. I sympathize; like you said Rodgers prefers runs to sustains. 1.5/5
Serj Tankian - Very powerful, like the drive on it; nice climb, and well sustained. Cool call on breathing control. 4.5/5

Portamento
Glenn Hughes - Less of a slide and more of a climb, it is still incredible. Amazing falsetto acrobatics. 4/5
Jack Black - I like the tone of the beginning lows, but the higher he gets the more he loses it until around the D4 area then that great F#5. He also uses weird, inconsistent vowels the alleviate the climb. Once he gets to his passagio though it sounds great. 3.5/5

Gentle Tone
Peter Hammill - It may be the most "gentle" selection in this tourney, with some extremely softened vowels. Personally I find it pretty boring and not really emotional, but for he purposes of this cat it does well. 3.5/5
Brian May - He actually sounds a bit like Paul Rodgers here. It's exactly what I expect from May vocally: wispy, ethereal, gentle without the choirboy qualities of Hammill's. Lovely falsetto at the end too. 4.5/5

Sustain
Paul Rodgers: Sounds decent but it wasn't terribly sustained or exciting. 1.5/5
Serj Tankian: Damn talk about POWER! Great stuff. 4.5/5

Glissando
Glenn Hughes: Great control demonstrated here, although not my favorite tone. 3.5/5
Jack Black: Meh, respectively impressive I guess but doesn't stand out too much to me. 2/5

Beautiful tone
Peter Hammill: The master himself, pretty hard to top Hammill's regal yet vulnerable sound here imo. 5/5
Brian May: Pleasant singing but kind of a simple tone that doesn't strike me as too "beautiful". 3/5
