50 Cent (Curtis Jackson)

Post  Guest on Mon Jun 10, 2013 1:52 am

Voice Type: Baritone
Vocal Range: D2-E♭5

Significant High Notes:

E♭5 (''21 Questions'', ''PIMP'')
C5 (''What Up Gangsta'')
G4 (''Window Shopper'')
F4 (''PIMP'')
E4 (''What Up Gangsta'')

Significant High Notes:

B2 (''In Da Club'')
A2 (''21 Questions'')
G2 (''21 Questions'', ''Candy Shop'', ''Hustler's Ambition'')
F♯2 (''Candy Shop'')
E2 (''Candy Shop'')
D2 (''Hustler's Ambition'')

I discovered a couple of his albums from years ago and listening through, his range is pretty decent.
I'm still working on this.

Idk why people bother making a thread w/ rappers, its not like they can use their range musically anyways.

Eminem has a lot of songs with melodic vocals.

^^ Thats true, but unfortunately for a lot of rappers/singers there is some studio magic/autotune nowadays, and it really sucks tbh because some of these singers can actually be decent.

Who cares about autotune? I see it more like a watermark for the style.

If you like it, thats fine w/ me.  Smile

I just think it makes a singer sound too "robotic" and many times fake, its just not my cup of tea. Having a few minor mistakes in singing is what gives some songs a raw passion and a way to connect to it as listeners, and to try and correct that just sounds weird and unnatural IMHO. Some artists don't use auto-tune tastefully either (AKA Nate Ruess, who doesn't really need autotune at all hes a pretty good singer)

Agreed. It's true that some use it to mask their incapability to stay on pitch, but I view it as an additional vocal effect most of the time.

I mean, don't get me wrong, maybe for a certain song you DO want to sound like a robot,  Laughing almost like a vocoder effect, but using it to mask pitch problems is kind of lazy.

Sometimes it can sound good and sometimes very cheesy.

When I hear "autotune", I think "Ke$ha".
