Robin Zander

Voice type: Tenor
Total range: E2-F#6
Sung range: E2-G5

Significant high notes:

F#6 ("Ballad Of TV Violence")
G5 ("Best Friend", "ELO Kiddies", "Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School")
E5 ("Best Friend", "If You Want My Love", "Mandocello", "Gonna Raise Hell" live)
Eb5 ("If You Want My Love")
D5 ("IF You Want My Love")
C#5 ("She's Tight")
C5 ("If You Want My Love", "Mighty Wings", "If It Takes A Lifetime")
B4 ("The Flame", "Best Friend", "She's Tight", "Dream Police", "Gonna Raise Hell" live, "Welcome To The World")
A4 ("I Want You To Want Me", "Dream Police")

Significant low notes:

A2 ("Best Friend")
G2  ("Best Friend")
E2 ("Best Friend")

Lead singer of Cheap Trick, a Paul McCartneyish low tenor who shines in the upper fourth octave, hitting gritty B4s in most songs, but capable of clean 5th octave singing as shown in songs like 'She's Tight', 'Mighty Wings', and - in my opinion his best performance - 'If You Want My Love':

Here's the rangiest song I've found so far, sung black E5s and G5s! I hear dips to G2 and A2 in the verses and maybe a couple of E2s:

..........................................................................................................
*Orange marks notes with questionable registers: absolutely no use figuring out these.
*Blue marks probable non-modal notes.
*Red marks extremely bad, unimpressive or unintentional notes.
*Italics mark non-sung notes.

Curious about current range

Post  SallysRock on Fri Mar 22, 2013 2:12 am

There has been some discussion about Robin's voice at the official board. I would like to know your opinion on his current range. It sounded great to me, especially when I could hear his natural, non-miked voice up close. Thanks!!

Hey! I think Robin still sounds great - I saw him live a couple of years ago and he was flawless. Could you point a few hardcore fans this way to help me find his highest and lowest recorded notes?

Lots of D5s (and C5s) in this one, and a screamed D6 at 6:16.

I saw Cheap Trick a few summers ago and his highest notes sounded great. Only negative I can recall is that 'I Want You To Want Me' was a little 'pitchy'.

Great voice. Indeed, he has some small McCartney-like qualities to his voice, especially during that "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"-esque pre-chorus part. Taylor Hawkins sometimes sounds a lot like Robin to me.

He hits decent B4s in every chorus. Heres a random one selected at 2:29

A4s in every chorus. Here's a randomly selected chorus at 2:34.

B4's all over the place, and a clean C♯5 at 2:21. Solid C♯3's in the beginning too, if you want to expand that low notes section.
