Jeremy Enigk

Post  Stoner on Sun Mar 10, 2013 2:36 pm

Current status: UNFINISHED

Voice type: Low tenor
Total vocal range: F2-F♯5
Sung vocal range: F2-F♯5

Significient high notes:

F♯5 - Roses in Water
D5 - Lizard (live at End Session), The Shark's Own Private Fuck, Faces in Disguise
C5 - Damien Dreams
B4 - Damien Dreams, Faces in Disguise
B♭4 - 48, Bucket of Chicken, Song About an Angel, Theo B, Waffle
A4 - 9, Every Shining Time You Arrive, Friday, In Circles, Seven, Rain Song, Red Elephant, Return Of The Frog Queen, Round, Spade and Parade, Song About an Angel

Significient low notes:

C3 - In Circles, Song About an Angel, Waffle
B2 - Return of the Frog Queen
A2 - Guitar and Video Games, One and One is One, Been Here Before
G♯2 - Asleep Under Last Weeks News (live)
G2 - Damien Dreams
F♯2 - The Days Were Golden
F2 - J'nuh, World Waits (live at End Session)

Frontman of the defunct (and TALENTED) emo band Sunny Day Real Estate, Jeremy Enigk is great when it comes to put emotion into his songs. Labeled as a low tenor due to his passagios and his decent lows, he can also fit in the mid-tenor bench due to his very boyish, bright tenor timbre and light vocal weight. In fact, he's got a voice akin similar to Brian Aubert's one (only lighter), who quotes Sunny Day Real Estate as one of his major influences...

(Recommended if you don't know SDRE yet)

Starts with low singing down to G2, followed by easy B4's and C5's in the chorus (2:02). He gets all these notes live too!

.......................................................
*Orange marks notes with questionable registers: absolutely no use figuring out these.
*Blue marks probable non-modal notes.
*Red marks extremely fucked bad, unimpressive or unintentional notes.
*Indigo marks probable non-modal notes with questionable qualities (overshooting, cracked, erratic-sounding)
*Italics mark non-sung notes.

Believe it or not, the fact that this thread has proper formatting already makes it closer to being finished than a lot of the other threads in this section.

A short full C5 and brilliantly sustained B4 here. And the D5 is full too? I'm not really sure the tone of JEs head voice is real light its hard to tell, the same kinda issue with jeff buckley.

Jeremy's speaking voice sounds really different btw it's so weird

Damn, I almost forgot that thread! I added the D5 and marked it as full, but I don't know if it really is

Jeff Buckley's light notes to me sound like a high tenor's head voice mixed with some chest resonance and all sound full to me. The D5 Jeremy Enigk hits in that song sounds full to me and sounds like a lighter approach then some of his upper fourth octave heavier chest belted notes. Yeah his voice definitely sounds different than his singing voice, though that can be common for some tenors to be honest. I know a leggiero tenor who when he talks at a note that isn't very low such as an E3, his voice sounds super low and weighty and can be mistaken for a baritone voice. He normally speaks up in the upper third octave and sounds like a boy, but notes such as F#3 for this guy sound extremely low.
